The use of water-based coatings on exterior frames and shutters is now as common as it can be, thanks to the numerous advantages that these coatings provide:
Water Based for Exterior
- Reduced emissions of solvents into the atmosphere
- Shorter application times
- Excellent elasticity of the coating film
- Resistance to temperature changes
- Resistance to atmospheric agents
- Maximum coat ability
- Absence of any risk of self-combustion of fire.
The backdrop to the formulation of our new exterior waterborne coatings is that our loyal customers are now demanding nothing less than ‘state-of-the-art’ products in terms of: durability, cost and efficiency. This reason is the motivation in defining the approach of INTERLAC’s laboratories to researching and refining its product using ‘state-of-the-art’ simulation programs that allow for product performance to be tested thoroughly by exposing the products to accelerated ageing cycles.
Today, our ACQUA range represents the perfect combination of rock-solid protection and long-lasting beauty. The products in the ACQUA range provide such high levels of quality because they:
- contain pigments and UV filters that protect the wooden surface and impede the yellowing and vetrification of the coating film
- undergo strict internal laboratory testing, not just during the experimental phase but also through subsequent sampling of individual batches, to ensure consistency of production
- are also tested to external bodies in accordance with stringent regulatory frameworks (including EU standard UNI EN 927) relating to the classification of exterior coating products
Typical Applications
Due to its versatility, anywhere the beautification and protection of wood is paramount. Polyurethane lends itself especially to applications where a durable, resistant and stable finish is required, such as office, public building and kitchen furniture.
INTERLAC produces a wide range of products suitable for every wood-working need – whether matte or gloss, full fill or open pore, “water white” clears or solid colour. Our polyurethanes in particular will give you excellent results using simple application procedures.
Unlike many coatings, polyurethanes can be built coat after coat to achieve a closed pore, full fill without fear of checking or delaminating, as long as basic procedures are followed. Polyurethanes can also be left for a period, then sanded and top coated at a later date. True high gloss (over 95% at 60 degrees) and pure brilliant colours further differentiate the look of these products.
To ensure optimum results with INTERLAC polyurethane products, we list a few simple precautions:
- Ensure nozzle size and air pressure are suitable (typically 1.8-2.2mm for conventional equipment)
- Use only needed and advised reducers
- Catalyze accurately (frequently 2:1)
- Do not rush sanding and drying times
- Avoid excessively heavy coats especially on the first coat and on hot or humid days
- Ensure there is no moisture or other contamination in the air lines
- Check adhesion prior to commencing a project
Important Notes and Health and Safety Warnings
Consult the relevant TDS and MSDS for mixing ratios etc. The catalysts contain small amounts of TDI – ensure adequate ventilation and OSHA approved masks – see MSDS.
Always verify the suitability of the product for the job to be done before application. Once mixed, the products have a pot life restraint – depending on conditions probably from 2 – 4 hours – ensure the products are used within their pot life.
